Subject: IMPORTANT NOTICE - Central Zone 2009

LSC Coaches, Team Managers, and meet personnel,

We have been recently informed of an elevated level of blue-green algae at the CZ open water venue, Morse Reservoir. This occurrence is not unusual but requires a few simple additional precautions. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management is the source to obtain current conditions and information on blue-green algae. We have an open water conditions notice at the meet web site: www.indianacentralzone.com  Anyone wishing to know more may follow the link to the IDEM site or go to www.in.gov/idem/algae/

The meet committee does not foresee a problem conducting the open water event as planned the morning of Thursday Aug 6th. We do however, require that all swimmers, parents or guardians, and coaches be aware of the water conditions. Open water meet personnel will obtain the most recent data and observations prior to the event.

We need your assistance. Attached is a acknowledgment and waiver form describing blue-green algae. We require one for each swimmer. This form must be on file Thursday morning before water entry. Please get the word out to all your open water swimmers and bring your signed forms with you for check in Thurs morning.

Due to the late occurrence of this issue, we will allow the LSC coaches or team managers to sign for the swimmer in the event the parent or guardian's signature is unavailable. Should the coach or team manager sign, they are acknowledging that the information and consent was given to/by the parent or guardian and the coach or team manager is acting on their behalf.

A conference call for this and other meet items will be conducted the evening of Monday Aug 3rd. Please look for your conference invitation as usual from Ed Parrish

I thank your for you assistance in this matter. I know you have all been working hard at the end of a long summer season. We are looking forward to a great Central Zone Meet.
