Verify Your Entries – ONE FINAL TIME!
There have been entry changes to individual events and relays, although very few. Some changes resulted in a “domino-affect” resulting from other changes so please verify that your entries are correct. We will send these entries electronically to Indiana on Sunday night (Aug 3rd) and after that time no changes are permitted. All relay lineups are set and swimmers are expected to swim the relay for which they are assigned. We will only have an A relay for the 15-18 swimmers since we only have 7 swimmers available during those sessions.
Wednesday Ohio Social – IMPORTANT!!
Wednesday’s Ohio Social will be held at the Marriott East Conference Center in the Salon’s 4 and 5. Meet & Greet begins at 3PM, we will begin having food at 3:30PM. Announcements and introduction of coaches begin at 4PM. A complete list of all Ohio swimmers that are returning to the natatorium Wednesday evening are listed below. You will notice that the meet is requesting 1 swimmer from each age group (we selected the oldest swimmer) be present for a short ceremony prior to the relays beginning. We will call the Wednesday’s “relay” 13-14 and 15-18 swimmers to the stage during the Social, as well as the team reps for each age group, and present them with a few items to take with them to the pool that evening. If anyone listed cannot get to the Natatorium for the opening ceremony or relay, reply to this e-mail and let Coordinator Brent know.

Club Gear – not permitted
No club gear, caps, logos, backpacks, team shirts, etc are permitted while being a member of the Ohio Zone Team. Parents – please have your athlete check their travel gear to ensure they do not have anything representing their local club. This will be strictly enforced at the meet and all club items will be held by the staff and returned at the end of the trip; this has not been an issue in past years.
Ohio Shirt Schedule
Ohio
Athletes will follow the shirt assignments listed below. Each day at the meet,
there will be a special theme to generate spirit. Parents are encouraged to
participate by dressing for the appropriate theme. Although Ohio athletes are
asked to wear their assigned shirt each day, they can wear additional creative
gear to promote spirit (hats, flags, jewelry, etc). Themes are as follows:Wed –
RED (TEAM PICS, SOCIAL) (meet theme: team spirit, Van Halen music)
Thu – WHITE (meet theme: Hawaiian/surfer, Beach Boys music)
Fri – BLUE (meet theme: rocker dress, John Mellencamp music)
Sat – GREY (meet theme: American red, white & blue, Lee Greenwood music)
Sun – YOU PICK ONE FROM ABOVE (meet theme: team spirit, Queen music)
Live Streaming Video from the Meet
If you saw the official meet homepage recently, you may have noticed they plan to offer live streaming video from the meet. If they are successful, it may be possible watch the meet from your home computer. (hopefully, all sessions).
Largest Ohio Team Assembled Ever
This year’s Ohio team will include 222 of you. That surpasses last year’s largest squad of 175 athletes. In case you were wondering, there are four (4) Zone Championships in the country. Each zone runs its championship format independently from the others. The Zone meet is the only national level age group championship in USA-Swimming. Our Zone, called the “Central Zone”, has its own government that meets annually during the National USA-Swimming convention. There are 15 Local Swimming Chapters (LSCs) in the Central Zone. This year’s zone meet will include all 15 of those chapters in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the meet, coined the “Mega” meet. Normally, the meet is split into two separate meets held at two locations – each with 7 or 8 of the LSCs. The last “Mega” meet was in 2003 and included over 1800 athletes. This year’s Mega meet is expected to be larger and faster. This year’s meet will be crowded, and the IUPUI Natatorium will use lessons learned from the lastone to run smoothly. Regardless of how smooth the meet is, if you are traveling to the meet, be prepared for crowds and a long weekend.
Travel kids will be well-chaperoned
Athletes on the travel team will be well chaperoned throughout the weekend. We have a total of 15 coaches and parent-chaperones that will be onsite with the team at all times. All travel athletes will be expected to participate in warm-ups during each preliminary session (or timed finals for the 12 & under sessions), regardless of whether they are swimming an event on a given day. During non-competing sessions, athletes will participate in poster parties, movies, or other activities the staff organizes. Non-travel team members may participate in some of these activities if they are able to be planned in advanced – those activities will be posted in the lobby at the Marriott East hotel.
Coaches bios
Ohio Zone Coaches Bios are posted to the website.
Equipment Distribution
We plan to distribute Ohio equipment packages and goody bags near the buses along University Drive between 10:30-11:30AM on Wednesday. Each family or athlete must be present to pickup their package – or a friend/acquaintance with an e-mail or note may pick up a package for another family. Be flexible, as the meet host my direct us to do this somewhere else; but it won’t be hard to find 200 Ohio athletes as we are the only team checking in near this timeframe. University Drive runs parallel along the west side of the pool --- in fact, they may have the pool doors open along that wall for us to easily move from University Drive to the pool area in preparation for team pictures that begin at 12:05PM (and team practice that begins at 12:30PM). Travel swimmers will eat their boxed lunches during this time.
Wednesday Box lunches – TRAVEL TEAM
Travel team swimmers will have boxed lunches delivered to the Natatorium during Wednesday’s registration. These lunches will be served to the travel swimmers and staff in the assigned Ohio seating area at the pool approximately 11AM.
Team Pictures
Team pictures will be taken in the field alongside the pool (west side, just beyond University Drive). All travel team members will receive one team photo. Non-travel team members must inquire about team photos or any other photo packages available from the onsite vendor.
Open Water
As you are probably aware, we are not traveling as a team to the Open Water event on Wed morning. We will not have the travel team or coaches participating in the event this year. This is not uncommon. We will have an official present to act as a technical liaison (Mr Rice from CAC), but you will need to travel to and register at the Open Water event on your own. Since equipment packages will be distributed at the natatorium around 11AM, you will need to supply your own suit.
Travel Team – Pack Light
Please make sure travel athletes have the appropriate travel items needed for a 5-day trip (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, extra goggles, etc). Travel team athletes are required to wear their assigned shirt each day, but athletes should bring a few extra shirts in case the coaches and chaperones allow them to be worn. Bottom line: pack light!
Travel Team Sign Out Form
The last page of the registration packet included a Travel Team “Sign Out” Form. This is for travel team members only that need to get signed our prior to the return bus trip home. Families who wish to do this must submit a signed form, to be co-signed by a Coach or Chaperone at the time of check out, in order to remove an athlete from the travel team. Once a travel team athlete has been checked out, they cannot return to the Travel Team. Also, Travel Team athletes may not be checked out for short periods of time or leave the travel team for any reason.
Caps, Shirts
All Ohio suit logos, shirt, and cap designs are posted to the website. We will have a few extra shirts available during Wednesday’s registration. Staff will also have extra caps on hand if you need to trade with other teams or for souvenirs.
SWIMMER ROSTER FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT’S RELAYS AND OPENING CEREMONIES
Swimmers listed below that are on the Travel Team will depart from the Social at 4:20PM. Swimmers listed below that are not on the Travel Team will drive to the IUPUI Natatorium in time for 5:30PM warmups (relays begin at 6:15PM). During the Wednesday's Ohio Social, we will call to the stage and recognize the senior relay swimmers that are competing in the special “Wednesday Night relays” at IUPUI. In addition to the relay swimmers, we can send 8 swimmers (one from each age group) to the natatorium for an opening ceremony (5:30PM at IUPUI) prior to the relays. The oldest swimmer in each age division is listed below. If any swimmer CAN NOT make the opening ceremony on Wednesday, please let the Coordinato Brent Peaden know at bpeaden@woh.rr.com so we can contact the next available swimmer. Total swimmer count for Wednesday’s events at IUPUI is 46 (41 relay swimmers and 8 team rep swimmer [3 duplicate]).
