GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

The Dayton Raiders Swim Club is divided into 7 groups so that swimmers of all ages and abilities will progress at the most suitable level based on age, emotional preparedness, and ability.  Our group advancement program along with highly educated and motivated coaches provide Miami Valley swimmers with an exciting and highly instructional environment.  We invite you to meet our coaches and see what a fun, challenging, and stimulating swimming is all about.

MINI
Novice group for 6-8 year olds who have little or no competitive experience.  Emphasis on introducing skills on all four strokes and in starts & turns.  This group is mainly instructional in nature, but will consist of a very small amount of interval training and endurance work.  Games and drills used extensively. Seasonal membership offered.

WHITE
This group is for experienced 7-10 year olds.  Group will stress mechanics in all four strokes and prepare swimmers for competition if competing.  Starts, turns, and drills will be the primary emphasis with a moderate amount of endurance work.  Games, flexibility, and leg/abdominal exercises used in dryland sessions. Seasonal membership offered.

RED
This group is for experienced 8-12 year olds with increased focus on mechanics of competitive strokes, starts & turns, as well as an introduction to speed work and goal setting.  More conditioning and endurance work is emphasized on a consistent basis.  Practices are geared towards Ohio “A” and “AA” time standards.  Dryland consists of core exercises and flexibility drills. Seasonal membership offered.

BLUE
This group is for experienced 9-13 year olds emphasizing preparation for competition in USA-Swimming meets.  Higher level of drill work, stroke work, starts, and turns with increased attention to aerobic training and speed work.  IM/distance work used on a consistent basis.  Meet goals are Ohio “A”, “AAA” and ZONE meets.  Dryland consists of core, flexibility, and leg work.

BRONZE
This is the top level of the Age Group program.  Swimmers are prepared to enter the senior level groups following this group.  Competitive group for 10-14 year olds.  This group combines stroke work with a strong conditioning program.  Swimmer expected to attend at least 3-4 practices per week.  Dryland includes abdominal strengthening, chords, and medicine balls.  Ohio “AA” and ZONE meets are goal meets for this group.
